Raise a Toast to Planet Earth!
The main bar at Elderflower Fields 2024 is delighted to welcome back Toast Brewing and their range of delicious beers made using surplus bread.
The idea behind Toast was sparked in 2015. Toastmaster Tristram Stuart, a campaigner on the environmental and social impacts of food production, met the brewers behind the Brussels Beer Project. They’d used bread in their ‘Babylone’ beer, a nod to beer’s origins of being brewed with bread.
Did you know some of the earliest beers were made using wild yeast to ferment baked grains – very similar to bread! It was an epic way of working with nature to preserve food.
Nowadays us humans produce a lot of bread, using land, water and energy, but about 44% is wasted. There’s a similar story for all food – food production is the biggest contributor to climate change, but one third of all food is wasted.
Since 2016, Toast Brewing has saved so many slices of bread that stacked up together would be over 4 times the height of Mount Everest!
Toast are on a mission. By fighting food waste, advocating for nature, and giving all profits to the charities protecting the natural world we all love.
Join us, and let’s Raise a Toast to Planet Earth!
