Robots vs Animals

By March 21, 2018No Comments

Introducing our 2018 festival theme!

We thoroughly encourage a bit of family fancy dress at Elderflower Fields, and you should feel free to be as flamboyant and fabulous as you like all weekend! But we especially would like everyone dressing up on Sunday afternoon and this year we would love you to pick a team: Robots or Animals!

As part of the theme announcement, we’re really excited to introduce a new spectacular for our 2018 programme… The Elderflower Fields Big Family Dance Off!

On Sunday, after the picnic, we encourage all of you Robots and Animals to join Lost & Found on the new Leapfrog Lawns for an epic battle of throwing shapes and jumping jitterbugs – no special skills required, just enthusiasm!

There will be silliness, prizes and one family will be crowned the 2018 Dance of champions…

The robot and elephant characters were designed by artist Aaron Blecha and will feature on this year’s festival t-shirt which can be pre-ordered up until 1st May via the main tickets page.

About the artist

Aaron Blecha is an artist and author with over 15 years experience illustrating and writing children’s books and creating fun and funny characters.

Blecha has illustrated more than 30 books for leading international publishers (Penguin Random House, Simon & Schuster) and he has recently authored and illustrated two books for HarperCollins (Goodnight, Grizzle Grump! and Good Morning, Grizzle Grump!).

He is a Hove resident for the past seven years, but was born and raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1997, he lived in Chicago, then Copenhagen- finally landing in California. In San Francisco, Blecha worked as an animator and character designer in the animation and toy industries. He moved to the UK in 2005 and has been a freelance illustrator ever since.

Blecha currently has a solo exhibition titled Aliens, Zombie & Monsters! at Hove Museum running through to September. The galleries are filled with vibrant life-sized alien, zombie and monster characters along with displays that show the process behind creating children’s characters and books- starting with sketches to final book pages.

Aliens, Zombies and Monsters! The Weird World of Aaron Blecha, Hove Museum, until 4 September. 19 New Church Road. Closed Weds. 10-5pm, 2-5pm Sundays. Free.
